Why We Built This Reference
Brookhaven became a city in 2012, but its resident-record history extends through older DeKalb County and Atlanta-area sources. DeKalb Property Appraisal and the Clerk of Superior Court document ownership. Georgia law controls access to registration records. Decatur Library, Emory's digitized collections, and Georgia Archives preserve historical material. By organizing search tools, known coverage, office contacts, and access limits, we help readers identify the right custodian without mistaking one public roll for a full list of people in a household.
Resources Organized Here
- Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
- Records and custodians: the assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital-records offices, and library genealogy collection
- Practical methods: tracing a street, reading a directory entry, and following a household through different decades
- Access boundaries: records Georgia law makes public, protected data, and request options for material that is not online
